Tehran (Diplomat.so) - Germany's Lufthansa Group will not resume flights to Iran's capital, Tehran, until the end of January, citing the ongoing political situation, a company spokesperson said on Monday.
"Due to the current situation, Lufthansa decided on Monday afternoon to suspend its flights to Tehran until Wednesday, January 28,” the spokesperson said. The airline had previously planned to restart services this Friday after a suspension lasting about seven months.
The spokesperson reiterated that the safety of passengers and crew remains Lufthansa’s top priority. The company said it continues to monitor developments closely and will review its decision if conditions change.
Several international airlines have adjusted or suspended operations to Iran in recent months, reflecting broader concerns about regional stability and operational risk. Flight suspensions can affect business travel, tourism, and connectivity for passengers traveling between Europe and Iran.
Iran has been gripped by widespread protests for more than two weeks, placing increased pressure on the country’s leadership. Authorities have responded with a heavy security crackdown, while access to the internet has been restricted since Thursday evening, according to reports from rights groups and media outlets.
