Tehran (DPA + Diplomat.so) - Iran said on Monday that it had summoned the ambassadors of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to the Foreign Ministry in Tehran following statements of support by European leaders for protesters in Iran.
According to a statement broadcast by Iran’s state media, officials showed videos of recent unrest during the meetings and said that what they described as "violent” acts had gone beyond the limits of peaceful protest.

Germany’s Foreign Office confirmed that its ambassador had been summoned. France’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed its ambassador’s attendance, saying Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed recent developments with European envoys, who in turn expressed concern about the situation in the country.

Britain did not explicitly confirm that its ambassador had been summoned. Government sources said the ambassador attended a previously scheduled meeting at the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper earlier praised the participation of women in nationwide protests and said the right to freedom of expression and assembly should not be met with violence or reprisals.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron said they were "deeply concerned” about reports of violence and strongly condemned the deaths of protesters.

Iranian authorities have called on the three countries to withdraw their expressions of solidarity with the demonstrators.
