Washington (Diplomat.so) -Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran's last shah and a prominent opposition figure, has stated that if the current Iranian government were to fall, his administration would immediately recognize the State of Israel. He added that a government under his leadership would also halt Iran's military nuclear program and seek to expand regional agreements similar to the Abraham Accords to include additional Arab states.
Pahlavi’s comments come amid growing domestic unrest and calls for political change in Iran. Analysts note that his positions are likely to spark debate both inside the country and internationally, reflecting long-standing tensions over Iran’s foreign policy and nuclear ambitions.
Recent opinion polls, including research conducted by GAMAAN and other studies in 2024–2026, estimate that Pahlavi has support from approximately 30–33% of Iranians, while a substantial portion of the population remains opposed. Experts caution that these figures are difficult to verify due to political restrictions on free expression and polling in Iran.
Observers say Pahlavi’s proposals signal a significant shift from the current government’s policies and could reshape Iran’s relations with both the Middle East and the wider international community. However, they also emphasize that any change in leadership would face numerous domestic and geopolitical challenges.
