Djibouti (diplomat.so) - In reaction to Houthi-launched anti-ship missiles in the Red Sea, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirms six defense strikes. The strikes, conducted between 2:50 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. local time, targeted Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The operation aimed to neutralize an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region.
Earlier on Monday, Houthi rebels fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles toward the Red Sea, targeting the merchant vessel Pinocchio. Fortunately, the missiles did not hit the vessel, and no injuries or damage were reported. The incident occurred between 8:50 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. local time.
CENTCOM emphasizes that the defensive measures were necessary to ensure the safety and security of international waters, protecting both commercial and military vessels. Since the initial attacks began last November, the Houthi rebels have continued their assaults despite US-led coalition efforts to deter and intercept their missiles.
The US military, which commenced airstrikes in Yemen in January, claims to have intercepted and destroyed over 100 Houthi missiles. However, the conflict persists, with the rebels showing no signs of relenting in their attacks on commercial ships navigating the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
