Tampa, Florida, U.S. (diplomat.so) - U.S. Central Command executed precision airstrikes on January 20 at approximately 4 a.m. (Sanaa time), preventing the launch of a Houthi anti-ship missile intended for the Gulf of Aden.
A statement from U.S. Central Command highlighted that the operation was conducted in line with an ongoing commitment to safeguard freedom of navigation and address potential threats to maritime vessels. The decision to intervene was prompted by U.S. forces' assessment that the Houthi missile posed a substantial danger to both merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region.

The targeted strike, executed in self-defense, resulted in the complete destruction of the Houthi anti-ship missile. This proactive measure significantly contributes to the safety and security of international waters, ensuring the well-being of U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.
