Kampala (diplomat.so) – In a statement during the 19th meeting of heads of states and governments of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki reported significant destruction in the Gaza Strip amid ongoing hostilities that have persisted for more than one hundred days.
According to al-Maliki, over 70% of homes and buildings in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), displacing nearly 2 million Palestinians, with half of them being children. The minister claimed that approximately 10,000 children have lost their lives during the conflict, and an additional 10,000 people, mainly women and children, are reportedly buried under debris.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the dire situation in Gaza, characterizing it as a result of what he described as a "genocidal war" initiated by Israel. He accused Israel of engaging in a campaign of mass murder and systematic extermination of the Palestinian people in the enclave.

The escalation in the Middle East began when Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip entered Israel on October 7, purportedly in response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. In retaliation, Israel imposed a complete siege on the Gaza Strip and launched a military operation. Israeli forces also conducted strikes in parts of Lebanon and Syria in response to attacks originating from these countries. Clashes have additionally been reported in the West Bank.
