Riyadh (Diplomat.so) - A senior Saudi official revealed that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman led intensive diplomatic efforts to dissuade U.S. President Donald Trump from launching a military strike on Iran.
According to Agence France-Presse, the official said the three Gulf countries encouraged Trump to give Tehran an opportunity to demonstrate goodwill. The diplomatic initiative aimed to prevent regional escalation and maintain stability in the Middle East.
The official added that the efforts included direct communications and continuous political engagement with the U.S. administration, representing a coordinated attempt to steer Washington away from a military confrontation with Iran.
Analysts say the move underscores the growing role of Gulf states in mediating tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Experts also note that such diplomacy reflects broader regional concerns about the potential humanitarian, economic, and security consequences of a conflict.
Although Trump’s administration has not publicly confirmed these interventions, Gulf officials stress that behind-the-scenes diplomacy often shapes high-stakes foreign policy decisions.
