Kampala (Diplomat.so) - Voting has begun in Uganda's presidential election, with around 21.6 million people eligible to cast their ballots in a country of roughly 45 million residents. Polling stations opened early on Wednesday, and authorities are urging voters to participate peacefully.
Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, is seeking a seventh term. He faces seven challengers, including his main rival, opposition leader Bobi Wine.

Election observers have been deployed across the country to monitor the process and ensure transparency. Security forces are also present at polling stations to maintain order.

The outcome of the vote is expected to have significant implications for Uganda’s political landscape, which has been dominated by Museveni for nearly four decades. International observers and local media are closely watching the election results, which are anticipated to be announced in the coming days.
