Kosti (Diplomat.so) - Sudan's 18th Infantry Division intelligence seized fuel, weapons, ammunition and narcotics in White Nile State on Sunday, August 23, authorities said, alleging the supplies were destined for the Rapid Support Forces.
White Nile Governor Lieutenant General Qamar al-Din Mohammed Fadl al-Mawla inspected the seized materials alongside members of the state security committee after the operation, which authorities said involved a joint anti-smuggling force, a security cell and reserve police units operating in western areas of the state.

Officials said the confiscated supplies included 79 barrels of fuel, PK machine guns, Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition and quantities of narcotic pills. Authorities said the shipments were intercepted in separate locations near routes leading toward Sudan’s border with South Sudan.

Fadl al-Mawla praised coordination among military and security agencies involved in the operation and said White Nile authorities had adopted measures criminalizing the smuggling of strategic commodities, food and fuel. He described attempts to move supplies to the RSF as a "sabotage act” supported by collaborators inside Sudan.

The governor also directed prosecutors and other judicial authorities to accelerate legal procedures against suspects linked to the intercepted shipments and apply penalties provided under Sudanese law. Authorities did not disclose the number of people arrested, identify suspects or provide details about possible charges.

Major General Jamal Juma Adam, commander of the 18th Infantry Division, confirmed that security forces had confiscated 79 fuel barrels and weapons from several locations in western White Nile, along with different types of narcotic pills.

Adam said security and military agencies would continue joint operations intended to secure the state and counter activities authorities consider threats to security and stability. Diplomat News Network could not independently establish the intended recipients of the seized materials, and no RSF response to the authorities’ allegations was immediately available.

The operation underscores the security importance of White Nile State, which borders South Sudan and contains routes used for the movement of people and commercial goods between the two countries. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF has increased scrutiny of supply corridors and cross-border movements that could sustain armed operations.

White Nile authorities have conducted other anti-smuggling operations during the conflict. In March, state anti-smuggling police announced the seizure of about 450,000 narcotic pills transported in four four-wheel-drive vehicles, illustrating the broader challenge posed by illicit trafficking networks.

Sunday’s seizure adds to efforts by state authorities to tighten control over strategic supplies and border routes. The military has not disclosed the precise interception sites, the estimated value of the confiscated materials or whether investigations have identified a wider network responsible for moving the shipments.
