Mogadishu (Diplomat.so) - The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, inaugurated on Tuesday the newly completed Arimas Terminal at Aden Abdulle International Airport, hailing the project as a major advancement in the country's aviation infrastructure. The terminal's opening marks one of the most significant upgrades at Somalia's busiest airport in more than a decade.
The facility was developed through a public-private partnership between two privately owned firms—Somali-based Arimas Company and FAVORİ LLC Airport Management & Ground Handling Company—operating on land owned by the Somali government. Officials said the arrangement reflects a growing model in which government-held infrastructure is expanded through private investment under regulated oversight.
"This project highlights the impact of Somali entrepreneurship combined with credible international expertise,’’ Prime Minister Barre said in the event. "Our administration has strengthened investment laws to protect partners, stimulate economic growth, and open new opportunities for young Somalis.”
According to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the new terminal includes a CIP lounge, modern cargo warehouse, and MRO facilities built to international standards. Experts note that the expansion will ease congestion, improve passenger experience, and strengthen cargo handling at a time when Somalia is deepening its regional trade links and preparing for higher volumes of commercial flights following its East African Community (EAC) admission.
The project aligns with the government’s DanQaran development agenda, which prioritizes long-term economic transformation and infrastructure modernization. Airport officials confirmed that additional improvements are planned as passenger and cargo demand continues to rise.
