Aden (Diplomat.so) - A convoy of the Second Brigade of Yemen's Al-Amaliqa Forces was targeted in a deadly attack in the Golda area of Aden on Wednesday, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries, the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen's legitimate government reported. Brig. Gen. Hamdi Shukri, the brigade commander, was among those attacked.
Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition, condemned the incident as a "cowardly terrorist attack” and reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to safeguarding civilians and maintaining stability in liberated areas. He urged Yemeni authorities to unify against attempts to destabilize the region and described the coalition’s response as decisive, warning that any future attacks on Aden or other liberated provinces would be met "with an iron hand.”

The attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in southern Yemen, where sporadic violence threatens the fragile stability achieved in recent years. Analysts say such attacks may be intended to undermine local governance and disrupt efforts to restore normalcy, particularly in areas under Al-Amaliqa and coalition protection.

Al-Maliki also stressed the importance of combined local and international efforts to combat terrorism, emphasizing the need to disrupt both the financial and ideological networks that fuel extremist operations. The coalition’s statement reflects a broader strategy to strengthen security cooperation with Yemeni forces and prevent the spread of militant influence in liberated provinces.

Experts note that attacks like these not only risk civilian lives but also pose broader political and economic risks, potentially delaying reconstruction and humanitarian efforts. They stress that unified government and security responses are crucial to preserving social cohesion and preventing escalation.

The coalition expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for those injured, while reiterating its resolve to maintain peace and security in Yemen’s southern provinces.
