New Delhi (Diplomat.so) - India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a significant step forward in their bilateral relationship following the official visit of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to India.
The visit, marked by high-level discussions and ceremonial engagements, culminated in the signing of 12 key agreements and announcements that span investment, defense, technology, food safety, and cultural cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Mohamed held wide-ranging talks that addressed not only bilateral priorities but also regional and global developments. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between their nations. Their discussions emphasized mutual interests in trade, investment, defense collaboration, and people-to-people ties, reflecting the evolving nature of India-UAE relations in a multipolar world.

Among the most notable outcomes was the signing of a Letter of Intent to establish a Strategic Defense Partnership, signaling a new phase of security cooperation. This agreement is expected to enhance joint defense initiatives and foster greater interoperability between the two countries’ armed forces. In the energy sector, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and ADNOC Gas formalized a Sales and Purchase Agreement, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a key energy partner for India.

The visit also underscored the importance of technological collaboration. India and the UAE agreed to jointly develop a supercomputing cluster, a move that aligns with both nations’ ambitions in digital innovation and artificial intelligence. Additionally, the two sides will explore the establishment of ‘Digital/Data Embassies’, a forward-looking initiative aimed at securing digital assets and enhancing cyber cooperation.

Space exploration emerged as another area of convergence. A Letter of Intent was signed between India’s IN-SPACe and the UAE Space Agency to promote commercial collaboration and industry development in the space sector. This partnership is expected to open new avenues for joint missions and satellite technologies, further integrating the two nations into the global space economy.

Economic ties were also reinforced with a commitment to double bilateral trade to USD 200 billion by 2032. The Government of Gujarat and the UAE’s Ministry of Investment signed an LoI to develop the Dholera Special Investment Region, while UAE companies such as First Abu Dhabi Bank and DP World announced plans to establish operations in Gujarat’s GIFT City. These developments reflect growing investor confidence and the strategic importance of India’s financial and industrial hubs.

Cultural and social exchanges were given renewed emphasis. The UAE will host a ‘House of India’ in Abu Dhabi, featuring a museum dedicated to Indian art, heritage, and archaeology. Both sides also agreed to promote youth exchanges, fostering deeper understanding and long-term friendship between their populations. A separate MoU on food safety and technical standards was signed between APEDA and the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, enhancing cooperation in agricultural trade and sustainability.

The visit concluded with optimism and a shared vision for the future. The personal rapport between Prime Minister Modi and President Sheikh Mohamed was evident throughout the engagements, reinforcing the trust and strategic alignment that now defines India-UAE relations.
