Bosaso (Diplomat.so) - Al Shabaab fighters loyal to Al-Qaeda attacked late last night the hard-line guard prison in Bosaso, the capital of Bari region, in Puntland State of Somalia, in which Al Shabaab and Islamic State prisoners accused of terrorist and subversive acts were housed, announcing that they took control of the prison and released 400 inmates before their withdrawal.
Eyewitnesses said that the attack began with explosions and heavy gunfire, which led to the killing and wounding of prison guards who did not receive security support in time, given that the prison is located in a suburb far from the other security forces' outposts in Bosaso.

Bari provincial police commissioner Hussein Ali Mohamud said that the Bosaso prison was attacked by the masterminds of evil and that the prison guards defended to prevent its penetration and that the attempt of perfidy ended in failure and they were chased, stressing that some prisoners escaped from the prison during the armed confrontations that led to the death of one soldier and wounding two others.
