Jeddah (Diplomat.so) - Somalia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, addressed an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on Saturday, highlighting the country's ongoing challenges.
In his speech, Minister Abdisalam called for increased cooperation among OIC member states to protect Somalia’s territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty. He affirmed that Somaliland is an inseparable part of Somalia and emphasized the importance of maintaining security in the Red Sea and safeguarding international shipping routes.
The minister also stressed that no foreign power has the authority to alter Somalia’s internationally recognized borders. He said such actions would violate the United Nations Charter as well as the principles of the OIC, including regional security, maritime safety, and efforts to combat terrorism.
