Juba (Diplomat.so) - The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has issued a formal statement reaffirming its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The declaration, released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, aligns South Sudan's position with that of the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
South Sudan emphasized its recognition of Somalia’s internationally accepted borders and its commitment to preserving the country’s unity. The statement underscored that any actions undermining Somalia’s territorial integrity pose risks to regional stability and violate established international norms.
The government further noted that its stance is rooted in the principles of the AU Constitutive Act and relevant international treaties, which uphold the inviolability of borders and the sovereignty of member states.
This renewed affirmation comes amid growing calls across Africa to reinforce respect for national sovereignty and discourage external interference in domestic affairs.
