In Caracas, lawmaker Nicolás Maduro Guerra, the president’s son, warned that his father’s detention by the United States could set a dangerous international precedent. Addressing Venezuela’s National Assembly on Monday, he accused Washington of undermining global stability and demanded that U.S. authorities return his parents.
The remarks marked Maduro Guerra’s first public appearance since the recent escalation. He also condemned his inclusion as a co-conspirator in the New York indictment involving his parents and called for international backing.
"If the detention of a head of state is normalized, no country is safe,” he said, describing the situation as a threat to global political stability. U.S. officials have not publicly responded to the statements.
