Stuttgart, Germany (diplomat.so) - In response to a request from Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command carried out a collective self-defense airstrike against the al-Shabaab group on March 10. The strike targeted a remote area near Ugunji, approximately 71 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu.
Initial assessments reveal that the airstrike resulted in the deaths of three al-Shabaab militants, with no reported civilian casualties. The group has posed a significant threat to U.S. forces and security interests in the region, prompting continued efforts to prevent attacks that disproportionately affect civilians.

Emphasizing the importance of Somalia's role in East Africa's security environment, U.S. Africa Command reaffirmed its commitment to training, advising, and equipping partner forces to counter al-Shabaab. Headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, the command works alongside partners to address international threats and promote regional security, stability, and prosperity.
