Addis Ababa (diplomat.so) - Ethiopian officials are deliberating the withdrawal from a controversial memorandum of understanding signed with the "Somaliland Administration" in Somalia's northwestern region. Sources within Ethiopian diplomatic circles disclosed that the consideration for withdrawal has been ongoing since February 21, citing mounting political tensions with neighboring Somalia.
The memorandum, signed on January 1 with the objective of establishing a military base extending to the Red Sea, has sparked significant political discord with Somalia. Ethiopian authorities are reportedly contemplating the withdrawal due to perceived technical and financial obstacles that could potentially undermine the success of the memorandum.

Ethiopia aims to reaffirm its commitment to respecting Somalia's sovereignty and independence, underscoring that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has communicated this development to key officials, including the President of Kenya and the Danish Foreign Minister, as Ethiopia seeks to navigate its relationship with Somalia and foster regional stability.

An official announcement from Ethiopia regarding the potential revocation of the contentious agreement is anticipated, as the nation strives to mend relations with Somalia and promote regional harmony.
