Washington (diplomat.so) - military officials confirmed the unfortunate fate of two US Navy SEALs who went missing earlier this month during a mission in the Gulf of Aden. The elite soldiers were part of a raid on an Iranian vessel suspected of carrying weapons. Despite extensive search efforts, their whereabouts could not be determined, leading to a change in their status to deceased.
The incident unfolded on January 11 when the SEALs were reported missing after boarding an Iranian boat near the coast of Somalia. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) expressed deep sorrow over the loss and emphasized the lasting impact of their sacrifice.

CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla conveyed his condolences, stating, "We mourn the loss of our two Naval Special Warfare warriors, and we will forever honor their sacrifice and example. Our prayers are with the SEALs' families, friends, the US Navy, and the entire Special Operations community during this time."

This tragic event follows a series of US strikes against Houthi targets, prompted by Houthi attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. These attacks have not only disrupted global trade but also raised concerns about potential supply bottlenecks. In response, US Central Command forces recently targeted a Houthi anti-ship missile aimed at the Gulf of Aden, preventing a potential launch, as confirmed by the US military on Saturday.
