FESTU Condemns the assassination of the Somali Journalist in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer + DIPLOMAT.SO) – Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) strongly condemned the assassination of the prominent Somali Journalist, Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Haji who was killed in Mogadishu Yaqshid district by two unknown armed gunmen, NUSOJ reported.

It’s a big loss and tragedy for the Media community at the assassination of the Somali journalist Abdiaziz Ali Haji, a newscaster and reporter for Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu after two unknown armed gunmen shot him to death at Yaqshid district in Mogadishu on the evening of 27 September, 2016.

The General Secretary of the Federation Of Somali Trade Unions – FESTU) Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim condemned in the strongest terms possible the heinous and fearsome assassination against the Journalist and sent his sympathies and condolences to the families, friends of late Abdiaziz Ali Haji and stand with Solidarity at the Radio Shabelle for the death of their reporter. May his soul rest in Peace, Aamiin.

Late Abdiaziz was among journalists who received training from the Finnish Foundation for Media and Developments (VIKES) from Finland in partnership with #NUSOJ in Mogadishu on May 2015, according to the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), who the deceased was an active. NUSOJ is a founding member of FESTU.

Impunity is the biggest threat to the Somalia’s press Freedom. The Assassination of late Abdiaziz comes in less than three months when a female journalist working for the SNTV was assassinated in Mogadishu in June this year.
