Egyptian President meets Kenyan, Somali counterparts and VP of Burundi
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ( MENA + DIPLOMAT.SO) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Saturday 30/01/2016 with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the vice president of Burundi.
The meetings were held prior to the closed-door session of the African Summit.
During the meetings, Sisi tackled ways of boosting bilateral ties between Egypt and the three countries in the various spheres, including increasing coordination and consultation on the various African files, especially in light of Egypt’s joining the membership of African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) and its current membership in the UNSC, said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef.
Egypt will continue its support for these countries through programs and activities of the Egyptian Agency for Development Partnerships, the spokesman quoted Sisi as saying during the meetings.
Sisi discussed with the Kenyan president means of boosting economic cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries, especially that Kenya is considered as Egypt’s first trade partner in COMESA, said the spokesman.
The volume of trade exchange between the two countries hits about 600 million dollars.
The meeting also took up the latest developments in the Middle East along with regional and international efforts to establish peace and stability in the region, according to the spokesman.
The spokesman, meanwhile, said that Sisi’s meeting with the Somali president tackled the latest developments in Somalia.
Sisi underlined Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity and stability along with the plan of the Somali government for implementing Somalia’s vision 2016″, which aims to hold elections during this year in preparation of forming a transitional government, added the spokesman.
The Somali president, meanwhile, hailed Egypt’s supportive stance for his country and appreciated development aid offered by Egypt to train Somali cadres in the various spheres, said the spokesman.
Regarding Sisi’s meeting with the vice president of Burundi, the spokesman said that the meeting discussed the latest developments in Burundi in light of the presidential elections and the political developments taking place in Burundi.
