Transfer news: Chelsea want Saido Berahino
Londan (Agencies + DIPLOMAT.SO) – Chelsea are reportedly considering a £20million bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino, while Xabi Alonso has been linked with a Liverpool return.
CHELSEA CONSIDER £20M BERAHINO BID
Chelsea have added West Brom’s Saido Berahino to their list of striker targets and are considering a £20million bid in January, reports the Daily Telegraph.
With Radamel Falcao expected to depart Stamford Bridge when the transfer window re-opens, Jose Mourinho is planning to sign at least one new striker – and there is said to be ‘growing support’ for a move for Berahino, who will have only 18 months remaining on his contract come January and would also boost Chelsea’s home-grown player quota.
Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette are also ‘likely targets’, the newspaper adds, while the Blues could face competition for Berahino from Tottenham, who ‘remain keen on a possible deal’.
West Brom will not be keen to sell Berahino mid-season, but the chances of the 22-year-old signing a new contract at The Hawthorns are said to be ‘remote at best’, possibly forcing Albion’s hand.
SNEIJDER AND DIAWARA ALSO LINKED
Chelsea have also been linked with Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara, by Gianluca Di Marzio, and Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder, by Turkish website Fanatik.
Diawara is apparently also being tracked by Juventus and AC Milan, who are both willing to offer cash plus players for the 18-year-old, but the Guinean’s agent is said to have already reached an agreement with Pini Zahavi, who is close to Roman Abramovich.
Sneijder, meanwhile, is apparently set to be reunited with Jose Mourinho, who he played for at Inter Milan, with Chelsea set to pay the 31-year-old’s release clause in January.
