Spanish police busts four ‘very radicalized’ jihadi suspects
Madrid ( Agencies + DIPLOMAT.SO) – Police in Spain busted four suspected jihadis, who bear eerie similarities to the terrorists responsible for the Charlie Hebdo massacre in France, officials said.
The would-be killers had stockpiled weapons and military paraphernalia in preparation for a lethal suicide mission, authorities claim.
“These are two pairs of very radicalized brothers who are highly trained militarily, physically and mentally and are prepared to carry out an attack, and ready, according to the police, to blow themselves up in the act,” Spanish Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said.
The suspects were all Spanish nationals of Moroccan origin, officials said.
Heavily armed Spanish National Police raided two houses before dawn on Saturday morning after anti-terrorism investigators tracked the brothers’ online efforts to recruit others for a bloody jihad.
Police recovered an automatic pistol, combat fatigues, bullets, face-hiding hoods, Spanish car license plates and machetes during the raid.
“The four men, of Spanish nationality and Moroccan origin, have a very similar profile to those who carried out the attacks in Paris,” the interior ministry said in a statement.
In the Paris attacks, a trio of homegrown terrorists slaughtered 17 innocents, including 12 during a bloody ambush of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, during the three-day killing spree.
The stunning bloodbath put police forces across the West on high alert.
