Alexis Sanchez is priceless, says Thierry Henry
London ( Agencies + DIPLOMAT.SO) – Thierry Henry has called Alexis Sanchez Arsenal’s best signing of the last six years and says: “He is going to be a great player for many years.”
Recalling Arsenal’s struggles since he left North London for Barcelona, in 2007, Henry said: “Arsenal were looking for a player that can deliver on a daily basis and they have found one. He is brilliant – work rate, he can see the game incredibly as you saw with the goal on Sunday. He scores goals and doesn’t need a lot of opportunities to put the ball in back of the net – that is very important.
“He is a very, very good player and you know that if he is on tune, then Arsenal have a lot of chances to win the game. I am trying to think of the last five or six years [to decide whether there has been a better signing]. It is still early days but so far it is very good. He is doing extremely well. He is going to score goals but it is his all-round game that I am so impressed with. That has no price. As a fan you are waiting to have a player like that. Finally we have one.”
Speaking at the Fifa Ballon d’Or in Zurich, Henry said he was “not surprised” Barcelona allowed Sanchez to leave but declined to “elaborate.” He went on: “He struggled at the beginning, like everybody, but when he got into a rhythm, you can see the quality. We should all be happy with him, especially Arsenal.”
Asked whether Arsenal are inching back towards the level of his own time at the club, Henry said: “I haven’t been around the dressing room for a long time and I don’t know what they are working on. But, from afar, they don’t seem so far away. Having said that, they are still some distance from the first spot. All I will say is that when he [Sanchez] is in tune, it is way better for Arsenal. On the other side, it is going to take a team effort to get back to the top.
Henry, who finished his career at New York Red Bulls, also paid tribute to the “unstoppable” Steven Gerrard and argued that “he is going at the right time” to LA Galaxy.
“He is clever enough to adapt over there,” Henry said. “Saying that, he will arrive in a team that is already on tune. Trust me, they have either been winning or losing in the final every single year. They are a very good organisation. But Stevie G is Stevie G. It makes me laugh when I see people talking about them the way they [Liverpool] have been recently.
“As a midfielder, he was for me – along with Paul Scholes – unstoppable. I would have loved to have played alongside him. We had so many battles and I always used to say to him, it would have been an honour to play with him. He is the dream for any striker. Ask Torres. Ask Suarez. Ask any striker who has played with him. He still does it – that through ball along the ground or in the air, is a dream for any striker.
“Listen, you will never replace Steven Gerrard. Someone else will come in. But you will not replace Steven Gerrard. Someone else will come in and do something different but you cannot replace Steven Gerrard. I am not saying nobody will come to them but you just can’t replace what he does.”For more news and stories, join us on Facebook,Twitter , or contact us through our Email: firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com
