Somalia : U.S. airstrike killed Al Shabaab’s Amniyat Chief
Mogadishu ( DIPLOMAT.SO) – The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has revealed that the joint operation between NISA and CIA has led the assassination of Al Shabaab’s Intelligence Chief ( Amniyat) and two of his bodyguards.
U.S. drone strike on Monday evening (December 29) targeted the car of Abdishakur , khnown as ( Tahlil) , which was journey through a rural area just 25 from the town of Saakow district , Middle Juba province , Southern Somalia.
The Source added, that of Al Shabaab’s Intelligence Chief was traveling between Saakow district and Jawarey village when his vehicle was destroyed.
Abdishakur was appointed to the post after defected former Shebab rebels, intelligence Chief Zakariya Ismail Ahmed Hersi from the militants and surrendered to Somali National Army.
On the other hand , The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency confirmed in Statement that Zakariya Ismail is still under guard and grip of Somali intelligence, denying that he became a prisoner of war at the Kenyan army combined in AU Peace keepers in Elwak district , Gedo province , southwestern Somalia.
The al-Qaida affiliated al-Shabab is trying to overthrow the Somali government and turn the country into a conservative Islamic state.
A U.S. spokesman said Monday that officials do not believe there were any civilian casualties in the airstrike.
In September, another U.S. airstrike in Somalia killed al-Shabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane.
