Godah Barre : Somali refugees in Kenya will return voluntarily
Mogadishu ( DIPLOMAT.SO) – Acting Interior Minister Abdullahi Godah Bare said there are some ten thousands Somali refugees who are registered to return voluntarily from Kenya to Somalia, he was speaking in a ceremony to launch a new agency for resettlement of refugees and IDPs held at conference hall, Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was attended by the United Nation’s Refugee Agency ( UNHCR), IOM and other aid agencies.
the minister announced that there is 5 million Euros pledged to the resettlement plan by donors.
Among the speakers were the acting ministers of foreign affairs Dr. Abdirahman Dualeh Beileh and Public Works Nadifa Mohamed Osman , they both hailed country’s security achievements as the driving force behind the refugees to return back to Somalia.
The first phase of Somali refugees in Kenya has returned to Somalia officialy for the first time in two decades last week and more is expected to return.
Contrary to the minister’s comments, previous numbers provided by the UNHCR suggested that only three thousands refugees have registered to return.
