Somali’s Army repels Al Shabaab attack
Qoryooley,Lower Shabelle province, Somalia ( DIPLOMAT.SO) – On Friday, Somali National Army (SNA) foiled a vicious attack by Al Shabaab militants tried to seize a town in the south of the capital Mogadishu.
Fighters belonging to the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al shabaab attacked Qoryooley district, prompting hours long fight with Somali Government troops there, an official said.
Confirming the incident, Qoryooley district commissioner Mohamed Hajji, told Radio Shabelle that Somali National Army (SNA) resisted fiercely and the town is still under the government control.
Qoryooley residents have also confirmed the attack and said SNA soldiers are in control of the town which lies 120 kilometers north west of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Al-shabaab did not comment on the attack, but the militants have previously staged several deadly attacks on army camps in Lower Shabelle province of southern Somalia.
